Today my hospital partnered with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and had a blood drive for the employees to participate in. Being a universal donor myself I always feel like I have a responsibly to donate every time I am able.
Today was especially interesting because I got to not only donate but donate my red blood cells instead of doing whole blood like I normally do. First I got hooked up to a very fancy smancy machine...
then it got busy taking my blood
BUT the cool part of donating this way is that I recirculated my platelets back into my body with a saline solution mixed in so when I was done I didn't feel queasy or anything- as if any of you have donated blood before you have to know how bad/awful that can feel.
All in all it was a pretty great day especially knowing that being able to donate can save someones life is a pretty amazing feeling so I encourage you all to donate any time you can!
Have any of you done anything extraordinary lately?
