As many of you know Brandon and I travel to Indiana for Thanksgiving every year to spend time with his grandparents that can't travel down here as much anymore. Usually we only go for about 3-4 days but this year we were able to go for a whole week!
It was really nice to get out of town and away from work and spend some time together and with the family and while we were there we got to go somewhere I have been wanting to go since the first time I ever went to Indiana with Brandon, SANTA CLAUS, INDIANA!!!!!
So for my close friends you know I am a Christmas fanatic and this was just the little town to visit on our trip because everything was Christmas themed! Our first stop was The Santa Claus Christmas Store.
Poor Brandon suffered through around an hour to two hour adventure with me looking at all the ornaments and trees and snow globes and lights (Kid in a candy store comes to mind) and I even got to meet Santa Claus! I know I know even at 24 years old I still get excited to see Santa.
After the Christmas store it was off to see the Historic Santa Statue and Church
As you can see this statue was unveiled on December 22, 1935 and it is massive!!!
I promise you the picture doesn't do it justice!
After we saw the Santa Statue we walked down a little hill to the Church that they had just relocated from down the road.
I believe this church was built in 1880's and it was so beautiful. It still had some of the original fixtures and stained glass windows.
After the church we went down the road a little ways to the Lincoln National Park. Now what some people don't know is that Lincoln spent a lot of his boyhood in Indiana. While at the National park we visited Nancy Hanks, Lincoln's mother's grave site.
It was really neat to see and at the base of her headstone people have come and thrown in pennies I guess to leave a little bit of Lincoln with his mother.
I even managed to sneak in a picture with the hubbs- can't you see how excited he is...
After our excursion to Santa Claus we headed back to Hatfield and had a lovely week eating, visiting and even getting in a golf game and going to the movies with Brandon's cousins. I couldn't have asked for a better week of vacation.
Until next time,
XOXO
Jenn
